Non-canine SAR Critters

When emergencies happen over rugged terrain or deep in the wilderness, equine SAR teams are called in to help. With their strong senses of hearing, sight, and smell, horses make excellent SAR animals. Their height also helps searchers see across fields and over long distances.

SAR horses carry supplies, gear, and first aid equipment for search and rescue workers. And, SAR horses can carry people for many miles, allowing rescuers to work longer and travel farther than if they were traveling on their own two feet.
